the charlie kirk shit really does my head in
we all know (rather, we all should know...?) that charlie kirk was: a racist, bigoted, fascist political "activist" who only used his platform to spread hate.
now i'm not one to celebrate people dying (outside of for the meme anyways), but i'm not gonna be a hypocrite and say that i'm at all sad he's gone. whether people like him disappear from the political scene because they just lose relevance or because they, well, die, it don't really matter - i just want them gone.
which is why this whole kirkification of the internet thing is really weird to me (6-7 is also fucking me up. i used to be - and maybe still am - chronically online, and not getting memes is weird as fuck; maybe 27 is the age i get too old for young people shit).
in a way, it was fun, understandable in the beginning.
not being in the us, the fact that still our alt-right got so inflamed by his death was weird as fuck in a "what-the-fuck-am-i-seeing-lol" sort of way.
i know from the-platform-formerly-known-as-twitter that shit was even harder in the us. so the reaction to "maga are comparing charlie kirk to fucking jesus christ" being "well let's just put his face in every single picture ever to ridicule the man" was, well, fair.
but it's been, like, a year since then. he would've mostly be forgotten by now, if not for his predator of a widow using his death as a political trampoline. but instead, he turned into the new 'make-this-img-funny.3000'. and yeah, i guess the internet has this power of making everything become meta-humorous and devoid of its original meaning (l o s s), but the context around kirk and the kirkification of it all doesn't sit right with me.
in a way, i feel like (and this is just vibes based) we are stamping a fascist's face in every thing and laughing like it's the funniest shit ever, and fine, sure, but we're also helping solidify him and the hate he spread even further.
divulging the message of a fascist, even if it is, for the face of it, a parody, just shouldn't be done (it is also why using incel lingo is bad). the internet is full of bad jokes devoid of meaning, we should've already let go of a bad joke with fascism behind it.
